The kHaus is an open and lively cultural and creative center that invites visitors to linger, hold events, or work. After several years of reconstruction, the Rhine promenade is now connected to the barracks area via three openings. On more than 1400 square meters, there are public zones within the building, accessible to everyone during opening hours, free of any compulsion to consume. Furthermore, interested organizers will find a variety of event spaces for cultural events, symposia, or workshops on four floors of the kHaus. The flexibly usable rooms offer space for up to 200 people and convince with a unique view of the Rhine and a graduated price model.

Shared knowledge, shared spaces

Already more than ten culturally and socially engaged organizations, cultural and creative professionals call the kHaus their place of work from April - accessible workspaces are still available.  Those who work here share knowledge, experience, and even workspaces and are motivated to help shape the house and develop it further. The shared work environments are used flexibly, i.e., depending on the activity. This encourages interaction and exchange with the different users, organizers, and visitors within the house.

It is not only within the house that synergies are to be used and encounters realized: A central aspect of the kHaus is to create a connecting space for encounter, reflection, and dialogue with the population. The utilization concept connects various internal and external stakeholders. It ensures that a lively center for the city is created here, which realizes joint projects and continuously develops itself in the process. 

Participation and dynamism

The utilization concept, which was approved by the responsible technical and steering commission about a year ago, was developed together with more than 20 organizations in a participatory process. This ensured that the concept reflected what was wanted and needed by those involved. The participatory approach was not only an integral part of the conception phase but also remained a central tenet during implementation.

Opening in stages

Due to various delays in the renovation, the occupation and opening of the kHaus will take place in stages. The first organizations will move into the house from the beginning of April and put it into operation. The house and the passage to the Rhine will be open to the public from the beginning of May. At the same time, the catering businesses in the house will carry out their renovations and start operations at the end of April and the beginning of June.

Dynamic management team

The operational management of the kHaus will be taken over by a three-member co-management team consisting of:

This dynamic team has a wide range of experience in all areas necessary for the successful operation of the kHaus and is looking forward to shaping the kHaus for the city and the region in the future together with a multitude of actors.
